my_daguerreotype_boyfriend has a lovely picture of Sam Clemons from 1950 today - when he was 15 in the year 1850! It makes me wonder a.) how awesome any of our boys would look in a daguerreotype *g*, and b.) if Josiah or Chris might have known him when he was young man, before (or perhaps during?) the Civil War.

Thoughts? (Stories??)

How are we doing with words?  I'm still dabbling at editing more so than writing . . .

Caiti posted her lovely 'A' story yesterday, and I know we're in a lull period before the plan to start on April 1 - Monday - with a new challenge concept (AUs), but anyone having any joy with the writing?  I'm working on a piece for another fandom and trying to do a redraft on a  Mag 7 piece.  JoJo posted yesterday also (yea!).

How is everyone??

This has come up a couple of times on Daybook (Van's had some really good comments about the same program that is mentioned in this article, Dragon Naturally Speaking - and, seriously, who can't get behind a program with Dragon in the title??).

Elizabeth Craig, however, suggests using using one of these programs as a writing tool, to get stories down, especially, as she suggests, when " The story doesn’t cooperate. Your schedule goes haywire with unexpected stuff popping up.  Kids come home sick from school.  There are activities all hours of the day and night."

Her suggestions are good, especially her quote from Katie Ganshert about one of the other advantages of the recorder:

"The beautiful thing about this method is that it completely silences the dreaded internal editor.
There’s no back space. There’s no flashing cursor. There’s no blank page. There’s no critical little man sitting on your shoulder, reading each sentence while tutting and shaking his head.
There’s just a red record button."

What's not to love about it, especially if it transcribes?

So - any writing today?  I am working on editing a few things which means not a lot of words but a lot of thinking . . .

'Cause it's raining here and golf is on the television.  I managed about a thousand words yesterday and have already started on today's words - the rest of y'all??

So - an interesting article, "Writing is all about Rewriting":  "Writing is all about rewriting, which means you’ve got to get something down. But there is this paradox that I think all of us probably have experienced, those moments where we begin to write and we stop thinking, and we’re just writing. And it begins to flow. The best writing comes from the gut, from the heart, in the sense almost when the mind is shut off or it’s on automatic. And, of course, not everything’s going to be perfect. But if you could at least start every day with writing something, getting something down, you’ve planted a seed that you can nourish all day long."

The rest of the article is good, with a list of six ideas for managing your stories, the first of which is 'lower your standards'.  But, it makes sense.

So - have you planted a seed today?  (Or a couple of hundred?)

I got caught up in stuff yesterday and missed the day for which I am especially sorry - especially as the stuff I got caught up in had nothing to do with the fun and joy of writing (though it did sort of resemble some of the anguish and chore of it. *G*)

How are we all doing?

I did find this lovely article, though, "8 Ways to Flesh Out a Characeter":

Some of them we've talked about before, here or on Daybook:Some ideas for getting to know the guys )

How goes the creativity, now that Spring is creeping in (with its insidious pollen) on many of us?

I'll start with the thoughts first:

This recent post from "Daily Writing Tips" got me thinking about our seven , as I think each of them reflects at least one of these conceptually.  I've tried to (if it works) insert my thoughts in italics within the body of the essay:

Seven Types of Narrative Conflict )
And - words?  I worked on some character outlines yesterday - yea! - and I hope to get something new started with words later today!

So, here are my thoughts on Vin.

And that's the Seven! I hope you enjoyed!

So for Sunday - character study of Vin!  And words, too, if you're managing to write (I"m working on it now!)

This has been really great and I want to thank all of you who have been hanging in there with me!  I'm thinking that we'll take next week 'off', BUT I'd love to pick up either the week after or the first week of April (After Easter?) with either another daily writing count or some other exercise?  Anyone interested and/or have suggestions?

I have spent the day with some productivity, though not as much as I'd like. I have a few words on paper and I've been looking for a timeline that I have for the universe I'm trying to build, which led me to finding a few other things that I had lost - so good, but not as good as I'd like.

For Saturday, though, how about a character sketch of lovely Ezra!

And - words?  Anyone getting them down in a file??

I have been very productive - but sadly, only in a professional 'keep my job' sort of way.  So, with that in mind and the hope of getting more character studies done (and Caiti's awesomethinky analyses), I give you - Josiah.  Who is he, what is he thinking, and what is he doing with the rest of those rambling boys?

And - words?   I did get a few written today - not a lot, but I am closing in on the end of a story idea . . .

Everybody hanging in there?  Caiti's character studies have been wonderful - and very inspiring.  I've been working on my own though they are coming much more slowly (world developing as well as character studies).

I've managed about 400 words today, so far.  How are you guys doing?

My day has been - well, see the icon (and isn't it a great one?  Thanks Randi!)

I had great plans, and family got in the way, as so often happens.  I hope to get a lot done tomorrow - lines in a story (and actually, I had one of *those* dreams last night which may be completely rewriting the current story), as well as character studies actually on paper ( had a lot of great thoughts about Nathan in my AU universe today, but they haven't made it to file yet, darn it!)

For Wednesday - JD: what a great guy and such a wonderful catalyst!  How do we see him in canon and other universes too?

And words??  How are we doing??

I thought I would share this. This is in the back of my mind when I write Chris...it is the pool I try and draw out of to keep his character unified whenever I have him show up. Sometimes I'm better than others.

Chris Larabee )

(Also, I think I managed about 800 words or so.)

I was somewhat successful today; I got most of one of the wonderful, very indepth character sheets from epguide done for Chris in a sci-fi AU I'm working on - these sheets are very detailed!

I also got about 300 words added to my second attempt at a bingo story - not as good as I'd like but not all bad.

How are you guys doing?

For Tuesday - how about a study of Nathan, any AU and/or canon?

For those of us working on character studies or sketches, it seems to me that logic dictates we start with Chris.  Part of that is because of our discussions about Chris being the glue that binds the seven together, and because their relationships seem to revolve around him.  For myself, I tend to think that I need to define him first in any alternate universe as well as canon in order to figure out how the others come to be with him.

if needed, ideas for character sketches/essays )

And, for those continuing the writing trial - word counts???
