Yes, there are some, and they are not just producing awesome Mag 7 fic.

Go, read.  Then lambast me for falling down on the job of keeping our challenge to write everyday going. Though I have managed the past month or so.

But see - there are reasons to do it other than giving me fic to read.   Really, it's for our own good.

The Psychological Benefit of Writing Regularly.

Which will probably be a clue as to how I have failed these past weeks; I had intended to post every ten days, but then the confusing February leap day threw me off and I've just gotten behind.  I have started a short piece that I hope to finish up before the weekend which will give me some words, but I will be making a new recommitment, starting today.

I hope you guys are doing better than I am!  Tell me, please??

As we enter the second month of our year-long writing, this may be a little early (and I may revisit it with some regularity) but here's a really good Writing Excuses' podcast on Fan Writing, in which we are reminded that we love to write (just in case you forgot!) (To be fair, they're not talking specifically about fanfiction as we write it so much as all fan writing in general, but still - a very good reminder).

I have not been able to write my minimum number of words this past 10 days, though I have been trying to add words every day (even if it's only a sentence).  I got stuck on my International Fanworks Story, but while doing some professional research, an idea came to me, so I may be finishing that story off in the next day or so (ain't it great when two streams of writing come together??)

How are the rest of you doing? Everybody still making the effort?

(I am going to add the podcast tag and try to get back and tag the others too, fyi).

So I've been listening to podcasts when I walk and drive, to help me think about writing, and yesterday, I was listening to an Odyssey podcast from Jack Ketchum, a spec fic writer, about "writing from the wound" - or from that emotional place we all have that lets us connect with the characters regardless of how well we know them. It's a great podcast for two reasons:

one, as he's a spec fic writer, he discussed the challenge of asking ourselves hard questions such as 'what are you most afraid of' and 'what is the worst thing you've ever thought of doing', and 'what have you done that you are most ashamed of' - and others like that that require being really honest with yourself, which will help get you to the same honesty with your characters (and some really good plot ideas!)

two, he discussed the pain we all have in some situations - break up or loss in a close relationship, fear of losing something important and not being able to do anything about it, death of someone close - those acute emotions that we need to sometimes reconnect with in order to write those feelings and situations for our characters.

It made me think, again, about what brought me into the fandom: my connection with Chris. The writers make each of the boys vulnerable at one level or another, giving all of us something to connect with for each of them.  With Chris, it's loss of very close family, with many of the others, it's loss of a parent, with Ezra, it's the vulnerability of embarrassment or failure - some really good 'wounds' here to connect to us with.  I think that's a big part of what keeps me writing in this fandom, the wealth of emotions to work with.

How's everyone doing?

Everybody still writing?  I am, though it's not as much (school kicked in, first papers have come in).  I do have a story almost ready for the International Fanworks Day is anyone wants to beta.

I also - well, I can't say discovered, as it was recommended to me a while back, but over the past few days I've gotten around, finally, to walking again and to listening to podcasts, and I started in on a series called "Writing Excuses". It's a panel discussion with four pro sci-fi and fantasy writers, each ep about 15 minutes long, and some good stuff - some of it I know already, but some good ideas about writing in general (recognizing passive voice by adding 'by zombies' to the end: if the sentence makes sense, you have passive voice.)   Anybody got any other podcasts on writing that they like?

How's everyone else doing? Still writing??
