I'm almost in the land of the living, and today Fara is off dealing with Real Life, so I suspect we'll be tag-teaming the posts here for a while *G*
Daily Writing tips today had a post about ASL (average sentence length) and how that affects readability and "difficulty" of reading what you've written. Me, when I think of sentence length, I think more on how they can add to the flow and emotion of a story. Long sentences can have you breathless with the character, short choppy sentences can show tension or fear, and I think, for us, it's things like that that are more important than keeping sentences to around 20 words so they're readable for the "average" reader.
