Warning: a little angst, excessive sweetness, and way too much wandering around.
Notes: This is a short 'New Year' story started some time ago, which is set in the time shortly after the deaths of Chris Larabee's family. It doesn't quite meet the requirements of this challenge on word-count, but it was well over 5,000 words at several points in its existence (before the crazy editing pen got hold of it), and a completed story is a completed story, right?
