Day 244 - music

Over on [community profile] fic_promptly  today, the prompts were all based on Beatles' songs and/or lyrics, and it seems to have gotten quite a lovely turn out of writers, and a goodly number of us Mag 7 writers.  It makes me wonder: how much are we influenced by music, either as a 'muse' (hearing a song that makes us think of a situation involving our fave pair or characters) or as a 'mood creator' (setting the atmosphere that comes across in the story itself)?  Or - for anything else?

I haven't been a big music fan for a number of years now, though I do still hear the random song that I can't ignore (Seal's "Kiss from a Rose", Dido's "White Flag", anything by Suzanne Vega, but especially "Solitude Standing", "Straight Lines", "Soap and Water" or "Solitaire" - well, you get the idea), the one that 'gets to me' and makes me want to write *something*.

What song or performer or even style makes you think of  writing, especially writing 'the boys'?

(I'm also asking this because recently, Denorios asked me what my soundtrack was for Chris and Vin and - I honestly can't whittle it down enough to make it a top ten!)

I know that I'm influenced by music - some of my fic is inspired by a song, or even just a particular line in a song, or, more rarely, by the feeling evoked by a song. I have music playing pretty much no matter what I'm doing - I love my mp3 player because it frees me from having to have a radio in the kitchen while I'm washing dishes - but I don't know that the music I have on influences the tone/mood of my writing as I'm writing. It's mostly there as background noise.

(Also, eee! Suzanne Vega! I do so love "Solitude Standing" and "Straight Lines", but also "The Queen and the Solider" and "The World Before Columbus".)
